The LAO

The LAO is a member-directed venture capital fund made up of Ethereum enthusiasts and experts, supporting the work of Ethereum builders; a For-Profit, Limited Liability Autonomous Organization.

<h4>The Decentralized Bank for the Cryptocurrency Ecosystem</h4>
<h4>Maker DAO History</h4>
Founded in 2015, Maker DAO is an overcollateralized stablecoin project running on the Ethereum blockchain. MakerDAO was created in recognition of the fact that early cryptocurrencies were highly volatile and, thus, not very useful as a medium of exchange. The project&#8217;s development was led initially by the Maker Foundation but is now controlled by a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). The protocol was launched in 2017 as the Single-Collateral DAI system (SAI), which allowed users to mint DAI using ETH as collateral. DAI is a decentralized cryptocurrency built on Ethereum that aims to maintain a stable 1:1 value against the US dollar. After the launch of Single Collateral DAI, Maker built the Multi-Collateral DAI (MCD) system in 2019, accepting an increased variety of collateral types beyond ETH. Consequently, the total supply of DAI reached $100 million in May 2020, 7 months after the launch of MCD. Two years later, in June 2022, the total supply of DAI has now surpassed $6 billion.
<h4>Maker Protocol</h4>
The Maker Protocol was built in 2015 by a group of developers led by Rune Christensen, headquartered in Santa Cruz, California. The group later formalized into the Maker Foundation, a Cayman Islands company. In 2017, the Maker team raised considerable money by selling <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/maker/">MKR</a> tokens to noted venture capital firms Andreessen Horowitz, 1Confirmation and Polychain Capital. Polychain said at the time that it intended to participate in MakerDAO by helping to govern the DAI system. Additional money was raised in 2019 from venture firms Paradigm and Dragonfly Capital Partners to fund expansion to Asia. 
<h4>Maker DAO Basics</h4>
Maker DAO integrates the benefits of a DAO with a crypto-collateralized stablecoin, <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/multi-collateral-dai/">DAI</a>, to create a complete ecosystem. It consists of a Decentralized Finance (DeFi) platform that allows for loans, storage of savings, and much more on the Ethereum blockchain. MakerDao is the longest-running project on the <a href="https://learn.bybit.com/crypto/what-is-ethereum-and-how-does-it-work/">Ethereum blockchain</a>. It has more than 2.3 million Ethereum in its protocol, which is approximately 2% of the total supply of Ethereum. Furthermore, the Maker DAO protocol introduced the benefit of liquidity in crypto lending and borrowing. For instance, when the collateral for a specific loan, i.e., ETH, has dropped in value by a considerable margin below the amount in DAI, the loan goes through liquidation. Therefore, the Maker platform can sell ETH collateral to pay loans borrowed in DAI with fees and penalties. Consequently, liquidity and the liquidation threat create stability while lending and borrowing. Because of this, Maker DAO became the first stablecoin governed by a DAO, and opened the doors to a new world of financial opportunities using blockchain technology. In short, Maker DAO seeks to create an autonomous system controlled by <a href="https://academy.bit2me.com/en/what-are-smart-contracts/">smart contracts</a>, which manages Collateralized Debt Positions (CDP) using ether to issue a stable currency and providing new financing options in the emerging blockchain ecosystem. This allows any holder of ether to convert their tokens into DAI and thus can protect themselves from the volatility of the price of ETH, while also allowing them to earn money by making loans or saving in that currency using other protocols.
<h4>Maker DAO Governance</h4>
MakerDAO’s governance is controlled by holding tokens called Maker (MKR). Members of the DAO can use their MKR tokens to vote on community proposals for future improvements or delegate their tokens to help protect the integrity of the Maker protocol. To vote, navigate to the <a href="https://vote.makerdao.com/">voting site</a>, connect a wallet, and deposit MKR into the voting contract.  
<h4>Maker DAO Goals</h4>
The main goal behind the creation of Maker DAO is to build a decentralized operation and governance infrastructure that allows the creation of a stable currency with global reach. This scheme includes feedback and incentive mechanisms that will enable those who invest in the protocol to maintain its operation and expansion. Maker DAO also seeks to create a tool that facilitates access to DeFi, a mechanism that encourages people to transform their ether (and other currencies) to DAI. This way, Maker DAO increases the efficiency and transparency of financial markets through a decentralized and transparent currency, and people can still access a stable currency widely accepted among different blockchains and protocols.

<h4>Yearn Protocol</h4>
The Yearn Finance protocol has become one of the most notable pioneers in crypto by making DeFi, an umbrella term for automated, blockchain-based financial services, user-friendly. Yearn was founded in early 2020 by Andre Conje; rather than yield farming by hand, “he built and automated all of his processes directly on Ethereum. And by doing so, he built the world’s first yield aggregator,” according to <a href="https://thebluepill.eth.link/">The Blue Pill</a>, Yearn’s onboarding book. With Yearn, users simply provide liquidity to a protocol that will generate a return (yield) for them over time. The innovative protocol allows everyone easy access to DeFi returns without the need for programming skills or expertise in the industry. Yearn Finance services are provided by employing code, thus eliminating intermediaries like banks or custodians.

<h4>Yearn Token</h4>
The Yearn DAO was created in late 2020 after its native <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/yearn-finance/">YFI token</a> was distributed to those providing liquidity on Yearn Finance. This token represents governance and can be bought by any user. YFI token holders have the right to propose and vote on Yearn platform changes. Users must stake their YFI token to do so, meaning once votes have been cast, their YFI tokens are locked for three days into a smart contract, which is the decentralized equivalent of leaving your money in a bank fixed deposit. Yearn voters earn a fee for engaging in this decision-making process.

<h4>Yearn DAO</h4>
Anybody can contribute and steer the course of the DAO; self-starters and active individuals are all encouraged to participate. At Yearn DAO, “everyone is a leader, deciding for themselves how to follow the group’s evolutionary purpose”, as mentioned in The Blue Pill book. “Charters” are the workgroups in Yearn DAO, whereas “Stewards” are supporters providing help and onboarding new members to the workgroups.

<h4>Multi-DAO</h4>
After the April 2021 <a href="https://docs.yearn.finance/contributing/governance/governance-and-operations">Governance 2.0</a> proposal, Yearn DAO transformed into a multi-DAO structure, more agile with less bureaucracy. Yearn DAO employs “constrained delegation”, meaning that even though YFI holders are delegating power to other groups, those same YFI holders also determine the amount of power those groups will have. When teams make decisions, they are sent to “Transaction”, then onto the Multisig team.

SquiggleDAO is committed to cultivating a vibrant future for generative, on-chain art. SquiggleDAO supports and grows the generative art community by building community, awareness, and ownership around Squiggles, and by providing education and artistic grants around generative art and the NFT art community as a whole.
<h2>Background</h2>
Chromie Squiggles was the first generative art project launched on Art Blocks, which was the first blockchain-based generative art platform. Both Chromie Squiggles and Art Blocks were created by Erick Calderon, also referred to as a zombie named Snowfro. The zombie reference derives from his preferred PFP of a CryptoPunk Zombie. Erick has been an evangelist of generative art and fan of CryptoPunks from the beginning, even gifting them to friends as wedding presents, long before their rise in NFT culture.

Chromie Squiggles were a public mint project limited to 10,000 Squiggles randomly generated at the time of mint. Initially, collectors could mint their own Chromie Squiggle for 0.035 ETH, and, in the fashion of many generative NFT projects, wouldn’t know what their Squiggle looked like until after it was paid for and minted. 9,000 Chromie Squiggles were distributed via the public mint while the final 1,000 were saved for special events.

Chromie Squiggles have become some of the most sought-after art NFTs. Originally minted for a few hundred dollars, they now trade on the <a href="https://opensea.io/collection/chromie-squiggle-by-snowfro?search[sortAscending]=true&amp;search[sortBy]=UNIT_PRICE&amp;search[toggles][0]=BUY_NOW&amp;search[toggles][1]=ON_AUCTION">open market</a> for significantly more, with one Squiggle netting nearly $3M.

$SQUIG is the DAO’s governance token. Holders of $SQUIG can vote, but do not have a claim on the DAO’s assets. Though there is no value placed on the token, there is an over-the-counter book of buyers and sellers $SQUIG. More recently there has been a SQUIG/ETH pair added to Uniswap with the DAO providing access to liquidity for new and existing holders. 
<h2>On-chain Generative Art </h2>
<a href="https://medium.com/free-code-camp/an-introduction-to-generative-art-what-it-is-and-how-you-make-it-b0b363b50a70">On-chain generative art</a> like Chromie Squiggles is achieved through the creation of a computer script with variables. It is as much about math and code as it is about visual attributes like the color or brush strokes we usually think of when art is discussed.

SquiggleDAO is an incubator, foundry, and evangelist DAO supporting the growth and relevance of generative NFT art.

In ancient times, the Carthaginians believed that sacrificing a child to Moloch in times of war would increase the odds of their tribe’s victory. Members who didn’t participate were seen as risking the survival of the entire group. This practice continued for years, despite the toll it took, because of the power of the group’s incentive structure.

Moloch is exactly what the history books say he is. He is the god of child sacrifice, the fiery furnace into which you can toss your babies in exchange for victory in war. Moloch refers to collective action problems in which individual incentives are misaligned with globally optimal outcomes. These are problems that have existed throughout human history under different guises yet have remained largely unsolved. MolochDAO sees Moloch as the “final boss” of humanity, something that humans have unsuccessfully struggled to overcome for millennia, and which will have to be beaten if we want to ensure the long-term survival of our species.
<h2>Moloch, the Grant Giving DAO</h2>
MolochDAO’s objective is to accelerate the development of public Ethereum infrastructure that many teams need but don&#8217;t want to or cannot pay for on their own. By pooling ETH and other ERC-20 tokens, investors and teams building on Ethereum can collectively fund open-source work decided with a collective common interest. Ethereum infrastructure is the commons, and the tragedy to solve is the lack of coordination in furthering its development.

The ideas behind the MolochDAO’s mechanism design come largely from historical discussions of the problems with the commons. For reference:

MolochDAO pools user funds and locks them up in a contract called the Guild Bank. Contributors to the Guild Bank are given voting rights over how those funds should be spent, proportional to their contribution relative to the total pool. Access to joining the guild is restricted by having existing members vote on new entrants in a similar fashion to funding proposals, so that members of the DAO will be at least somewhat aligned on overarching purposes. The community recognizes that in any voting-based system, there are many edge cases created by possible collusion or the unavailability of stakeholders. To handle these, MolochDAO built a catch-all mechanism that allows participants to exit with their funds if they did not agree with the result of a vote. This is done by allowing members to “ragequit” the guild within a “grace period” after voting on a proposal completes but before those members’ ownership is affected by that proposal. At the time of the DAO’s founding, ragequit was a novel feature that organizations had not used before. Currently, DAOs that use MolochDAO smart contracts have this feature built in.
<h2>How to Join</h2>
MolochDAO members are notoriously elusive. The Discord is mostly quiet, the blog posting is sporadic, and the Twitter account changes based on who has credentials, a clear demonstration of the organization’s decentralized structure. Original members contributed 100 ETH in exchange for shares. Today, the path to membership is unclear, although the resilient and patient may submit an introduction in the <a href="https://forum.daohaus.club/c/moloch-rises/165">forum</a>.

MolochDAO

MolochDAO is the original grant-giving DAO, with the intention of beating the tragedy of the commons. MolochDAO is focused on furthering the development of public infrastructure related to the Ethereum ecosystem through research and grants.

Hydra DAO is scaling community-first investing across web3 by deploying capital and equipping communities with their own investment capabilities.

After operating MetaCartel Ventures for two years, a highly curated group of experienced DAO pioneers have brought their learnings and evolved understandings to form Hydra DAO: a community sustained investment DAO built to fund other investment DAOs.
<h4>Intention</h4>
MetaCartel Ventures hypothesized that the combined knowledge of an entire community of builders, founders, investors, and ecosystem participants would be able to aggregate deal flow and assess investments better than a typical investment fund. A conventional investment fund is centrally owned and run by a few select partners, and is thus innately limited in its scope.

With years of experience at MetaCartel Ventures, Hydra DAO not only understands how to sustainably run an investment DAO, but have also mapped out unexplored designs that can improve the coordination capacity, incentive alignment, and investment performance of investment DAOs. Hydra DAO plans to ramp up the pace of experimentation and take all their operating insights to scale community-first investing across web3.
<h4>Hydra Lore</h4>
Think of Hydra not as a feared monster, but instead as a representation of decentralization. When one head is severed, two return in its place. Each head has its own intentions and perspective, although the heads collaborate towards a shared goal, just like a DAO.

Hydra’s focus as an investment organization is on investing in other investment DAOs. This includes deploying capital, as well as incubating and equipping communities with their own investment capabilities. Hydra offers their network, operating experience, and knowledge of deal flow to other investment DAOs in order to help them become self-sustainable capital allocators.

<h4>Designing the DAO</h4>
Hydra DAO has made design decisions to increase efficiency and effectiveness. 
&nbsp;
Members noticed three things that needed to be addressed in the design of the DAO:
<ol>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">The need to incentivize high-value member participation and contribution towards key community objectives (solving the free-rider problem)</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">The need to decrease the scope of decision space in order to focus and limit unnecessary overhead spent on processes considered non-essential to investing</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">The need to bring in professional service providers to solve many of the DAO’s operational needs (legal, tax, accounting, and operations)</li>
</ol>

In response to these needs, Hydra’s design includes:

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Only onboarding capital contributions and DAO members at the beginning</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">A three-year fixed investment lifetime period in which the DAO is able to make investments</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Members in Hydra are able to ragequit and legally leave the organization with their pro rata portion of liquid assets and non-transferable claims to the profits of their illiquid investment positions, although distribution of a member’s illiquid assets is deferred to the end of the 3-year investment period, in order to simplify the operational admin of asset distributions.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Guildkick acts like ragequit but is forced on a DAO member by other members of Hydra DAO.</li>

<h4>The Future User-Owned Virtual Reality World</h4>
<h4>Decentraland Origin</h4>
Decentraland, founded in 2015 by Esteban Ordano and Ariel Meilich, was developed by a for-profit company based in China but registered in the Cayman Islands called Metaverse Holdings Ltd. Its development is coordinated by the Decentraland Foundation, a non-profit based in California. Decentraland raised over $25 million in a 2017 ICO and went live in January 2020. The project describes itself as the first-ever VR world owned by its users. The world consists of 90,000 parcels of land, each of which constitutes a unique NFT by itself on the Ethereum blockchain.

<h4>Decentraland Platform</h4>
Decentraland is a decentralized, traversable, three-dimensional (3D) virtual reality platform built on the Ethereum blockchain. Many different types of land are available in Decentraland, including individual parcels and estates consisting of multiple parcels. These parcels of land are bought and then sold on the Decentraland marketplace, where you can also purchase wearables and names for in-game avatars. Naturally, these are NFTs as well. Once owned, parcels of land can be modified using the Decentraland builder, which requires no technical ability to operate. Parcels, wearables, and names are bought using <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/decentraland/">MANA</a>, which is an Ethereum-based token and a Decentraland de-facto in-game currency. Within Decentraland, MANA can be used to buy NFTs from various virtual art galleries. Furthermore, it can be used to purchase tickets for virtual events and even for gambling. Another token used on the platform is LAND, an NFT used to define the ownership of land parcels representing digital real estate.

<h4>Decentraland DAO</h4>
Before launching the Decentraland platform, its DAO began turning project management over to its users. The Decentraland DAO owns the smart contracts and assets that constitute Decentraland itself, including the LAND contract, the estates contract, several wearables, content servers, and the marketplace. The DAO also owns a considerable amount of MANA, allowing it to be genuinely autonomous and subsidize various operations and initiatives throughout Decentraland. MANA holders are expected to vote on any changes to the Decentraland virtual world, including modifications to land parameters, marketplace fees, and the approval of wearable NFT collections. MANA holders can also vote on the approval of catalyst nodes that run the servers that host Decentraland’s virtual world.

Decentraland is the first completely decentralized self-governed virtual reality world. The original vision for this project has always been to hand over control to the people who create and play in this VR world. Through the DAO, users vote to control the policies designed to determine how the future of this virtual world will be; for example, the kind of wearable items allowed after the launch of the DAO, the moderation of content, the LAND policy, auctions, etc. Voting runs on the Decentraland DAO&#8217;s governance interface, powered by Aragon. <h4>The Decentralized Domain Name Registry of the Future  </h4>
<h2>ENS Origin</h2>
Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a Decentralized Application (DApp) created within the Ethereum developer community to build a decentralized domain name registry for the decentralized web. Today, we use Domain Name System (DNS) servers to resolve our .com domain names to IP addresses. Unfortunately, a centralized name registry like DNS is vulnerable to spoofing and Denial-Of-Service (DOS) attacks. However, since ENS is built on top of the Ethereum blockchain, it is decentralized and doesn’t suffer from the same vulnerabilities as DNS. ENS was founded in 2017 at the <a href="https://ethereum.foundation/">Ethereum Foundation</a>, but in 2018 became its own separate organization. 
<h2>ENS Team</h2>
True Names Limited (TNL), founded in 2018, is a Singapore-based non-profit organization in charge of core software development for ENS. This includes the ENS DApp, open-source libraries, and core smart contracts. The ENS Lead Developer is Nick Johnson, a software engineer from New Zealand that previously worked at Google and the Ethereum Foundation. In order to facilitate the possibility of upgrades and maintenance, the ENS root is controlled by four of seven multi-signature wallets, with members of related projects as keyholders. In the long term, they express the need to replace the root multi-signature wallets with some form of the distributed decision-making process as such systems become available. These seven multi-signature holders include Nick Johnson (True Names Limited), Sergey Nazarov (Chainlink), Dan Finlay (MetaMask), Taylor Monahan (MyCrypto), Aron Fischer (Colony), Jason Carver (Ethereum Foundation), and Martin Swende (Ethereum Foundation).
<h2>ENS Domains</h2>
ENS is used to resolve human-readable .eth domain names to Ethereum account addresses, smart contract addresses, and IPFS/Swarm content hashes. A significant difference from DNS is that you are not actually “buying” the domain name in ENS; you are simply locking up ether in a smart contract that gives you rights to the domain for a certain amount of time. If you let go of the domain name and don’t renew it, your locked-up ether is then returned to you. In contrast, with DNS, you don&#8217;t get any money back after your domain expires. The goal of ENS is to make the Ethereum-based web easier to use and understand for people &#8211; similar to how the internet’s Domain Name Service did so for the centralized web. In addition, ENS has a more censorship-resistant and secure nature, without a single point of failure due to blockchain technology.
<h2>ENS Token and DAO</h2>
The ENS Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) governs the protocol of ENS and influences decisions on pricing its .eth addresses and the price oracle. <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ethereum-name-service/">ENS</a> is also the name used for the <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/alexandria/glossary/governance-token">governance token</a> of Ethereum Name Service. ENS token is available for purchase on most major crypto exchanges. Token holders are eligible to delegate their tokens towards the DAO for voting. When a DAO member makes a <a href="https://snapshot.org/#/ens.eth">proposal</a>, other members can then use their ENS tokens to either vote for or against it. There’s also a delegate system in place through which token holders can choose representatives to control their votes. The total supply of ENS is limited to 100 million, whereas the circulating supply as of now is over 20 million. ENS token is distributed as follows:

MetaCartel believes that DAOs will change our fundamental understanding of what online communities are, how they coordinate, and what they are capable of; they believe DAOs will become the next cultural and economic epicenters of the open internet.
MetaCartel aspires to become an epicenter of the web3 movement, a hunting ground for the earliest of early ventures around decentralized applications and crypto experiments. The DAO funds and supports individuals and teams that aim to take part in the collective effort towards a coordinating body of connectors and fabric of community. MetaCartel DAO uses the smart contracts and framework of MolochDAO, the original grant giving DAO. A community first and foremost, MetaCartel is a grant giving DAO focused on the application layer of Ethereum and decentralized coordination. <h4>The World&#8217;s Savings Protocol</h4>
<h4>PoolTogether Origin</h4>
Launched in June 2019, PoolTogether a pioneer in crypto and one of the most widely used DeFi (Decentralized Finance) applications. It consists of a decentralized and open-source protocol for prize-linked savings powered by the Ethereum blockchain, enabling you to win by saving. Since its inception, the protocol has distributed over $5 million in prizes to depositors. It doesn&#8217;t cost money to join PoolTogether; you just need to enter by depositing cryptocurrency tokens. The platform then uses those tokens to generate yield, which is placed into the protocol’s lottery and later shared amongst participants. It’s a matter of perspective: You&#8217;re not losing anything by participating, although you are missing out on some yield you otherwise might have gained. This is because money prizes consist of the interest accrued on all deposited funds, so the yield is randomly awarded as prizes to the users.

<h4>PoolTogether Protocol</h4>
The PoolTogether protocol is a free, decentralized, open-source piece of software that runs on blockchains (currently Ethereum and Polygon). Because it is decentralized, no single individual or company controls the protocol, as the POOL token holders collectively manage the protocol. The purpose of PoolTogether is to empower financial health. This gives people a chance for significant returns without risking their money, since only you can access your deposited funds. Furthermore, PoolTogether is non-custodial, meaning users can redeem their money from the pool at any time. In addition, PoolTogether undergoes regular audits. In this sense, PoolTogether is better than lotteries because you don&#8217;t have to risk your money and still get significant returns. All these things make PoolTogether one of the best ways to introduce people to the power of DeFi.

<h4>PoolTogether DAO</h4>
The base organizational unit in the PoolTogether DAO is a team. A team consists of a group of contributors working towards a common goal. Teams are purpose-driven, and must have clear, measurable goals in support of that purpose. In addition, the team must publish monthly progress updates. However, control of the protocol remains in the hands of the DAO community holding the POOL tokens. Token holders are expected to <a href="https://vote.pooltogether.com/">vote</a> on proposals or <a href="https://gov.pooltogether.com/c/delegate-proposals/5">delegate</a> their votes to active governance participants. The primary responsibility of POOL holder governance is to maintain the protocol&#8217;s growth by managing the protocol parameters. Those parameters include managing the distribution of the POOL token, managing the <a href="https://info.pooltogether.com/">protocol treasury</a>, and determining the parameters of prize pools. Anyone holding or delegating 10,000 or more POOL tokens is allowed to submit their own change proposals to the protocol. Once a proposal is submitted, it is then subjected to a vote by POOL token holders. PoolTogether DAO is a global organization managing a prize-linked savings account powered by the Ethereum blockchain.

<h4>The Liquid Staking Platform for Ethereum</h4>
<h4>LIDO Origin</h4>
Lido Finance was founded in October 2020 by Konstantin Lomashuk, Vasily Shapovalov, and Jordan Fish. Konstantin holds a doctorate in finance and has worked in crypto since 2015, most notably as the founder of P2P Validator. This company runs validator nodes on various proof-of-stake blockchains. Vasily holds a bachelor&#8217;s degree in mathematics and spent nearly a decade working as a software engineer before switching to crypto in 2019. In 2020, he became the chief technology officer of P2P Validator, and one of his first tasks was to build a third-party staking solution for Ethereum&#8217;s <a href="https://ethereum.org/en/eth2/beacon-chain/">Beacon Chain</a>. The third-party staking solution Vasily was working on then became Lido Finance. Jordan Fish is a famous crypto influencer, podcaster, and writer who left Lido Finance in early 2021.

<h4>LIDO Protocol</h4>
Lido Finance is a liquid staking protocol. It lets you stake Proof of Stake (PoS) cryptocurrencies without locking them up, meaning you can trade them freely while still staking. When staking your cryptocurrency through Lido Finance, the protocol gives you a tradable token that acts as a receipt for the crypto you staked. For example, when you stake ETH on the Beacon Chain using Lido Finance, the protocol will give you a token called staked ETH or stETH, which has the same price as ETH, can be freely traded, and maintains its price peg. Besides Ethereum&#8217;s Beacon Chain, Lido Finance currently supports Solana, Kusama, Polygon, and Polkadot.
&nbsp;
<h4>LIDO Advantages</h4>
Lido Finance staking is already taking around one-third of all the ether on Ethereum&#8217;s Beacon Chain, an amount worth well over $8 billion. This is for a few reasons: First, becoming a validator on Ethereum&#8217;s Beacon Chain requires 32 ETH, which most people can&#8217;t afford, and delegation is technically impossible. Secondly, becoming a validator on Ethereum&#8217;s Beacon Chain requires technical knowledge and 24/7 monitoring because validators risk losing some of their ETH if they go offline or fail to upgrade on time.

<h4>LIDO DAO</h4>
Lido DAO supports the liquid staking solution available on <a href="https://learn.bybit.com/crypto/what-is-ethereum-2-0/">Ethereum 2.0</a>, allowing users to stake their tokens without locking their assets or maintaining any staking infrastructure by using a selection of carefully vetted validators. Since the staking of ETH2’s Beacon Chain locks the assets, Lido DAO allows assets to be liquified and used for other protocols. The term <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/alexandria/article/liquid-staking-and-its-benefits-a-deep-dive-by-lido">liquid staking</a> refers to receiving liquid tokens in return for depositing tokens. Lido DAO is solving problems for Ethereum 2.0 through non-custodial staking. With its derivative token known as <a href="https://help.lido.fi/en/articles/5230610-what-is-steth">stETH</a>, Lido DAO allows ETH locked in the initial phase to be staked into other protocols. The Lido community is always looking for new Beacon Chain validators. As a reward for sharing their staking infrastructure, these Beacon Chain validators earn 5% of the staking rewards from all the ETH delegated to them by Lido Finance. Another 5% of the staking rewards go to the Lido DAO Treasury, which can be used for grants for new Lido Finance deployments or protocol insurance if a Lido Finance-affiliated validator is slashed. The remaining 90% goes to stakeholders.

<h4>LIDO Token</h4>
In January 2021, <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/lido-dao/">LDO</a> was officially introduced as an Ethereum-based token with a maximum supply of 1 billion, the entirety of which was minted at Genesis. Around 36% of its supply went to the Lido Treasury. About 22% went to investors; 6.5% to early validators and signature holders; 20% to early developers of Lido Finance, and 15% to the founders and future employees. LDO is the Lido DAO governance token that facilitates building a trustless liquid staking service, and it drives the decentralization and decision-making of the independent structure of Lido. Governance decisions are in the hands of the Lido DAO community, as LDO holders can vote on any decision shaping the platform&#8217;s future. The amount of LDO token holders stake determines their voting power. Other use cases for LDO tokens include managing fee parameters and adding/removing any node from the network.
&nbsp;
<h4>LIDO and Ethereum</h4>
If Lido Finance continues to grow at its current rate, it could become the de facto governance layer of Ethereum. If 100% of the ETH being staked on the Beacon Chain were being done through Lido Finance, then the Lido DAO would have massive influence over Ethereum itself. The Lido Finance team believes this to be inevitable due to the insatiable demand for liquid staking.

SharkDAO started as a group of strangers on Discord interested in pooling resources to purchase Nouns NFTs, a novel experiment in generative, code-driven art. SharkDAO exists primarily to facilitate the pooling of individual token holders&#8217; funds to acquire these rare NFTs that would otherwise be too expensive for the average person. This approach presents novel opportunities for individuals to leverage the power of a collective pool of assets. Since SharkDAO started on August 9, 2021, the group has acquired five nouns, and raised almost 1000 ETH, brought together over 400 Sharks. SharkDAO’s mission is simple: evolve the web3 ecosystem by building a community that collects Nouns, helping steer and grow the Nouns DAO ecosystem.

<h4>SharkDAO</h4>
SharkDAO was established to purchase Nouns NFTs and use accumulated assets to co-govern in Nouns DAO and participate in developing its ecosystem and related artistic endeavors. It operates <a href="https://discourse.nouns.wtf/t/shark-labs-a-nounish-initiative-by-sharkdao-contributors/1870">Shark Labs</a> &#8211; &#8220;a cohort of SharkDAO contributors that are actively working on shipping Nounish projects,&#8221; using three main outlets: media, art, and development. Both Shark and Nouns DAO are closely related since SharkDAO frequently discusses Nouns proposals, and its projects are consulted between the two DAOs. Among other things, Sharks have pushed through Nouns and their budget projects such as Nouns comics, film, and street art. <a href="https://etherscan.io/token/0x232afce9f1b3aae7cb408e482e847250843db931">Shark</a> is the governance token of this DAO, enabling you to vote and steer the mission and how the group deploys resources. You can obtain these tokens from both Juicebox and Sushiswap. SharkDAO currently uses a Gnosis Safe wallet that contains a Juicebox NFT. Funds will move between Juicebox and the wallet, and transactions must be signed by three of the six members elected by the DAO.

SharkDAO is a global community of NFT collectors focused on growing the Nouns DAO and web3 ecosystem.

<h4>MoonDAO is going to the moon.</h4>
Many coins talk about going to the moon, but what if we literally sent MoonDAO members to the moon — and collectively governed the moon as a DAO?
<h2>Our mission</h2>
MoonDAO&#8217;s mission is to come to a collective agreement about how the moon and other celestial bodies should be governed.
&nbsp;
Rather than have the moon and other celestial bodies lie in the hands of a few private organizations (SpaceX, Blue Origin), we believe that an international, decentralized, inclusive, and transparent organization would be more equitable and fair.
&nbsp;
We do not believe in &#8220;emperors of the moon&#8221; or CEOs of space, but instead believe in extending the unalienable rights of citizens of planet earth to the solar system and beyond.
&nbsp;
According to the 1967 Space Treaty &#8220;outer space is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means.&#8221; But a DAO is not a nation, it is an international collective of like-minded frens.
&nbsp;
We uphold values of inclusion, peace, transparency, freedom of organization and speech. Space should be in the hands of the people, not any one nation or private entity 🌖.
&nbsp;
As such, MoonDAO will support funding for individuals to go to space, acquisition and governance of symbolic assets (like lunar asteroids, or the lunar manual used in the first space mission), and fund future space research and exploration as it fits into the mission of becoming a governing body for the moon and other celestial bodies. MoonDAO is going to the moon!!
<h2>How it works</h2>
Where are the funds going to be stored?
&nbsp;
We will use the same strategy as ConstitutionDAO for the initial fundraise for MoonDAO. We&#8217;ll store the funds in a Gnosis multi-sig with some of the core contributors, and then use Juicebox&#8217;s protocol to raise funds. Once we have a coin we will use a snapshot to make decisions as a DAO.
&nbsp;
The token represents governance over the assets, but not fractionalized ownership of the space rocks themselves.
&nbsp;
What are the risks?
&nbsp;
Crypto and web3 involve emergent and rapidly-developing technology and there is always a risk of unforeseen issues could impact us. Although we feel strongly that we have made everything as secure and foolproof as possible given the time constraints, we feel that it’s important to inform the community that these are possible risks:
&nbsp;
1. Despite the many layers of protection we have in place, the Gnosis Multi-Sig wallet could be affected by theft, loss of keys, or fraud.
&nbsp;
2. While the community has thoroughly vetted these contracts and our contribution platform has been previously battle-tested with millions of dollars secured, there is always the possibility that a smart contract could be hacked due to an unknown vulnerability.
&nbsp;
Am I receiving ownership in exchange for my donation?
&nbsp;
No. You are receiving a governance token, not fractionalized ownership. Governance includes the ability to advise on (for illustrative purposes) where our space rocks should be displayed, how they should be exhibited, and the mission and values of MoonDAO. MoonDAO is taking donations and donors are receiving governance tokens with no expectation of profit. These donations are not tax deductible at this point in time.

Will the core team receive any of the raised funds for themselves or get compensated in any way from this?

The core team has not received or pre-minted any tokens. We just want this to exist, we&#8217;re not doing this for the money. If you want to tip anyone in the community with NFT-memes or give individuals something for their hard work, that&#8217;s up to you. We don&#8217;t see much of a distinction between the core-contributors and the rest of the people. Eventually we hope there is no distinction in the long term and the community and core contributors have the same powers.

We are looking into using a similar method of governance as the Green Bay Packers. Votes will be proportional to the amount of tokens you have, but capped at 4% of the total vote. This means that the MoonDAO governance will be decentralized.

Moon DAO

MoonDAO's mission is to come to a collective agreement about how the moon and other celestial bodies should be governed. MoonDAO supports funding for individuals to go to space, acquisition and governance of symbolic assets (like lunar asteroids, or the lunar manual used in the first space mission), and fund future space research and exploration as it fits into the mission of becoming a governing body for the moon and other celestial bodies. Background: The inherently limited supply of Pokémon cards, which are printed and retired in sets, means that as specific cards become more difficult to obtain, their value (and thus their price) increases. Most notably, the rapper Logic spent $226,000 on a PSA 10 Base Set 1st Edition Charizard in October 2020. Two months later, another PSA 10 Charizard sold for $369,000.

In November 2021, ConstitutionDAO made headlines after raising 45 million USD, to bid in a Sotheby&#8217;s auction for one of the last remaining private copies of the United States Constitution. According to <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-11-20/crypto-crowdfunding-goes-mainstream-with-constitutiondao-bid">Bloomberg News</a>, this demonstrated the power of DAOs to “change the way people buy things, build companies, share resources and run nonprofits”.

However, after being outbid by Citadel CEO Kenneth Griffin, ConstitutionDAO shut down and offered to refund investors in PEOPLE tokens. When many investors did not redeem their refunds, in December 2021, a snapshot vote was held to form PeopleDAO with the remaining PEOPLE tokens in circulation and an expanded mission. PeopleDAO would incubate subDAOs to address various causes around web3 development and for the social good.
<h2 class="p1">The Offspring</h2>
The first two subDAOs launched by PeopleDAO are PandaDAO and LanguageDAO.

<a href="https://www.pandadao.info/">PandaDAO</a> aims to break web2&#8217;s grip on human resources and information. Their first product is a crowdsourced big data platform, aggregating cryptocurrency information from sources including Twitter, cryptocurrency exchanges, project forums, government and media websites, and more. Panda Social algorithmically processes this information and generates word clouds that helps discern shifts in market sentiment.

In later stages, PandaDAO plans to develop a completely decentralized and anonymous payment gateway that is controlled by a multisig contract and designed to meet the payment needs of web3 projects. The selection and development of future products, such as web 3 tools and frameworks, will be decided upon by governance consensus.

<a href="https://languagedao.com/">LanguageDAO</a> aspires to reduce language barriers in web3 through translation, interpretation, education, and advocacy. So far, translations in Chinese, Turkish, Vietnamese, French, Haitian Creole, Croatian, Indonesian, and Burmese are available.

Additionally, PeopleDAO has incubated their first community NFT project with <a href="https://constitution.y4000.xyz/">Constitution Fractionalized</a>. In July 2022, PeopleDAO also kicked off their first public incubation round, which will continue on a quarterly basis. Projects that are approved by governance vote to be incubated receive seed funding and in-kind support from PeopleDAO.

KONG Land is inspired by the book <a href="https://thenetworkstate.com/">The Network State</a> by Balaji Srinivasan. The book suggests that there exist three conventional methods of creating a new nation state – elections, revolutions, and war – and three unconventional methods – micronations, seasteading, and space – and introduces a seventh option: <a href="https://thenetworkstate.com/how-to-start-a-new-country#7-cloud-countries">cloud countries</a>.
&nbsp;
Essentially, cloud countries form online first and concern themselves with acquiring territory after it has developed strength in numbers and social recognition, which may include recognition by existing states. Due to on-chain metaverse projects such as The Sandbox and Decentraland, there is indeed plenty of digital territory available.
<h2 class="p1">Making NFTs Real</h2>
KONG Land positions itself at the intersection of the digital and physical worlds. For this purpose, they introduced the technology of Silicon Locked Contracts (SiLo) and Hardware Locked Contracts (HaLo). These are low-cost chips that can be embedded in physical items, creating a digital “twin” that is capable of attesting to their identity and provenance on-chain.

The first use case for SiLos was the creation of a physical cryptocurrency called KONG Cash in 2019. The physical bills are embedded with unique SiLos and the authenticity of each banknote can be easily verified using a mobile app. Since then, SiLos and HaLos have been implanted in a range of physical goods, including clothing, record disks, and bongs.

KONG Land is an unincorporated nonprofit organization in the state of Wyoming, one of the first US states to recognize DAOs as legal entities. The foundation of the Rarible community is the protocol, a “backend” from which NFT applications can be built on top of. There is a core developer team that maintains and upgrades the protocol. The protocol is open source and cross-chain, supporting Ethereum, Flow, Polygon, Polkadot, Tezos and Binance. Funding for the Rarible Protocol Foundation is received via multisig transactions from the DAO.
<h2>History of Rarible</h2>
Alexander Salnikov, Alexei Falin (CEO), and Ilya Komolkin created the Rarible team in 2019. The team unveiled the initial edition of the Rarible marketplace in May 2020, based in Moscow, following months of development. In July of 2020, Rarible issued its own governance token, $RARI, with the eventual goal that RARI token holders would have total control of the Rarible marketplace. Rarible Protocol and Rarible DAO, which acted together until last March, in order to support the ecosystem more efficiently, made the decision as a community to continue as separate entities with dedicated teams. <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Lazy Minting of Single (ERC721) or Edition (ERC1155) NFTs &#8211; This feature enables anyone, regardless of their crypto knowledge, to easily mint an NFT without paying a transaction fee. Instead, the gas costs associated with minting are paid off to the buyer when the NFT is sold — opening up NFT minting to mainstream audiences (for example: the minting of a Twitch stream, a Tweet, a TikTok video, all with zero crypto onboarding).</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Royalties Standard &#8211; The Rarible Protocol implements a royalty standard for protocol-minted NFTs, as well as for externally minted NFTs. This enables NFTs sold on protocol applications to adhere to creator and platform royalties regardless of their provenance (currently, if an NFT is minted on SuperRare, and sold on OpenSea, royalties are not passed along back to the original creator which is a huge barrier to creating an interoperable NFT ecosystem).</li>

Rarible DAO gives grants to projects building on the protocol ranging from $10K to $250K. Rarible is a community governing the development of an open source, cross-chain NFT protocol.

<h4>Neptune DAO is a community of accredited investors who have broken away from traditional VC to deliver a decentralized approach to investing.</h4>
Unlike traditional venture capital firms, Neptune DAO has taken a human-centric approach to providing liquidity to DeFi projects. The idea behind Balancer is that users can use this technology together in a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) to create funds based on the cryptocurrencies they own, similar in nature to how index funds work; users invest based upon the cryptocurrencies present within their portfolios for stability and security without having large amounts at risk of price fluctuations and exchange hacks. These funds are called Balancer pools, and any user willing to provide liquidity to a pool can do so by simply depositing an asset in them. <h2>It all started with a fire pit.</h2>
One day during the height of the pandemic, founder Jon Hillis was at Home Depot looking to build something for his cabin in Texas Hill Country. He couldn’t decide what to make, so he asked his followers on Twitter. The responses were overwhelmingly in favor of a fire pit; thus, the idea for a community-led project was sparked.

Contributors are service providers that help neighborhoods find residents, help residents find neighborhoods, and help neighborhoods grow their capacity. They are typically organized into small teams that operate independently and are hired by the DAO to build network infrastructure and capacity. Cabin itself has no employees, as it contracts with contributors to support the network as needed.
<h2>Guilds</h2>
Contributors at Cabin work within smaller guilds, such as the media guild, community guild, and placemaker guild. Guilds are where most of the work gets done, where meaningful connections are made, and where the local vibes collide. Within a guild, a contributor can earn bounties in Cabin token, find collaborators for a creative project, or join an IRL retreat or residency. When a new contributor joins the Discord, someone from the community will help match them with a guild.

Passport Stamps are NFTs (non-fungible tokens) that can be earned, gifted, purchased, or staked by members of the Cabin network using an open and permissionless set of tools. There are multiple multi-week camps each year. Typically, teams composed of individuals specializing in Music, Visual Art, Build, Radio, Lore, Economics, and Operations, collectively make music, art, and technology, which is packaged and sold as music NFTs. <h2>How it Started</h2>
On March 26, 2021, Matthew Chaim got inspired and spun up a Discord server called <a href="https://discord.com/invite/wHsJD2sTpc">Songcamp</a>, which held its first community call three days later.
&nbsp;
Shortly after winning a Creator x Crypto Summit sponsor NFT from Seed Club, the first songcamp was announced. Thirteen individuals were selected to Songcamps&#8217; inaugural camp, Genesis. Over two weeks, they produced three songs with cover art, sold the music NFTs on Mirror for roughly $34,000, and distributed the funds to the camp participants. The second camp, <a href="https://elektra.camp/#/">Elektra</a>, included lore with the music and cover art. The Elektra community has grown and now gathers on their own <a href="https://discord.com/invite/v6hj82yeaE">Discord</a> server.

The third camp, <a href="https://chaos.build/">Chaos</a>, began in January 2022 with more complex ambitions. Each NFT would come in a pack containing four individual songs which would be unknown to the buyer until the pack was &#8220;opened&#8221;. Purchasers could immediately open their packs, or choose to keep them in &#8220;mint condition&#8221;. The eight week long camp, comprised of 80 participants, created 45 songs distributed amongst 5,000 packs, which translated to 20,000 music NFTs, each with their own unique cover art. Approximately 1,400 packs were <a href="https://chaos.build/mint">minted</a> within the first hour, generating over $500,000, which was distributed amongst the artists and builders of this unprecedented project.

The Krause House is a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) working to bring the first fan-governed team to the game. At The Krause House, ownership consists of both as equity (participation in the upside of the business) and influence (having some say in its strategy). Krause House members will participate in decisions affecting the operating procedures of a National Basketball Association (NBA) team including, but not limited to: ticketing, merchandising, partnerships, and general management of players and coaches.
<h2>The Approach</h2>
Krause House is pursuing a model of Minority Decentralized Ownership where the DAO would own a minority stake of a team and achieve the goals of both ownership and influence over a specific set of decision areas. In addition to traditional ownership responsibilities, The Krause House plans to emphasize the franchise’s identity of being the NBA’s first metaverse-native team. It will be the team of web3 &#8211; the subject of NFTs, memes, token drops, discord rooms, etc. The team’s presence in the metaverse and network effects of social ownership will unlock value &#8211; financial, and in fandom &#8211; previously unrealized by teams with traditional ownership structures. In fact, the value created by a geographically diverse fan base cannot be unlocked by teams with traditional ownership structures, where fans cannot help shape the team and simultaneously have only a finite incentive to remain loyal.

<h4>DXdao Origin</h4>
DXdao was created in May 2019 as a collaboration between the teams at DAOstack and Gnosis with the goal of creating a truly decentralized and highly scalable organization. As stated in the <a href="https://dxdocs.eth.limo/docs/Manifesto/">DXdao Manifesto</a>, DXdao focuses on developing DeFi applications to ensure that the new digital financial infrastructure is not owned and controlled by a plutocracy. Aspiring to be headless, DXdao’s governance design distinctly separates financial value (DXD) from voting power (REP) allowing for greater decentralization. The DAO’s voting power was distributed in the form of REP tokens to hundreds of Ethereum address holders who had &#8211; prior to REP distribution &#8211; participated in DeFi by staking ETH or ERC-20 tokens, trading on the DutchX protocol, or purchasing DAOstack’s token.

<h4>DXdao Governance</h4>
DXdao is governed by stakeholders known as reputation (REP) holders. <a href="https://dxdocs.eth.limo/docs/Governance/REP/">REP</a> is not a token per se, but a reputation score associated with a specific Ethereum address, and thus cannot be transferred. REPs can be earned by contributing to the DAO; the more REP one holds, the more voting power one has on proposals and decisions made by the DAO.

<h4>DXD Token</h4>
DXD is the native and transferable ERC-20 economic token of DXdao. Holders of DXD are granted access to premium services and features on products owned by the DAO. DXD holders also receive a share of the DAO’s profits. In 2021, DXdao combined DXD token and REP into unified governance, allowing DXD holders to vote. DXdao proposals are passed through a majority vote of REP holders, but in order to scale its decision-making, DXdao employs <a href="https://medium.com/daostack/holographic-consensus-part-2-4fd461e8dcde">holographic consensus</a> to pass proposals with just a relative majority. A DXdao platform called DXvote is used for voting, employing the holographic consensus.

A team of contributors is called a “squad” and is guided by a leader; each squad is responsible for supporting the DAO’s interests and products. Each specific product and area of the business, such as development and marketing, is represented by a different squad.

<h2>Overview</h2>
PartyDAO is a decentralized community organized around the goal of building and shipping crypto software. Using the power of technology-enabled group coordination, this community of talented open source contributors, developers, engineers, designers, and product and marketing experts, unite to ship world-class, multi-user products that enhance the web3 ecosystem. PartyDAO&#8217;s first product was PartyBid, a platform that enables collective ownership of NFTs.

Over the past few years, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) &#8211; a form of digital asset stored on the blockchain &#8211; have gone mainstream. One might say they’ve found a product-market fit among creators and collectors, but the process of acquiring them through auctions can be a drawback. Regardless of the level of interest in an NFT auction, it can only be sold to and owned by one person. This can leave bidders with relatively small amounts of tokens excluded. PartyBid was built to solve this issue by building a protocol where people can buy and own NFTs together as a group.
<h2 class="p3">Inspired by a Tweet </h2>
In the early hours of April 17, 2021, researcher and protocol designer, Dave White encouraged, via tweet, the members of the crypto community to ‘build mechanisms together’ and solicited ideas for DeFi, NFT, or related products. PartyDAO founder Denis Nazrov tweeted the idea for PartyBid, which quickly gained traction. Within days, developer and hacker Anish Agnihotri built the first implementation of PartyBid, and subsequently deployed a PartyBid in an NFT auction. The PartyBid group won the auction for 9.70 ETH and the proof-of-concept was fully realized.
<h2 class="p4">Shifting from Single-player to Multiplayer</h2>
The current iteration of PartyBid works in auctions for single NFTs available on marketplaces like Zora, Foundation, OpenSea, Nouns, and Catalog. When a party targets an auction, anyone interested in owning a fraction of the NFT can contribute any amount of  ETH (Ethereum tokens) on PartyBid. Once the PartyBid has amassed enough ETH, it can place a bid. If the party wins the auction, everyone who contributed ETH owns a fractionalized share of the NFT, and is also rewarded in PARTY tokens.

Although anyone can start or join a party on <a href="https://www.partybid.app/">PartyBid</a>, PartyDAO itself is currently token-gated. This means anyone interested in joining the DAO needs to have at least 10 $PARTY tokens, which are earned by using the product or by earning them as a working contributor to the DAO. PartyDAO is a community of builders and engineers focused on expanding individual impact and DAO capabilities by designing and shipping web3 products that promote collective ownership. 

SushiSwap was created in 2020 by anonymous developer Chef Nomi. It is a community-driven automated market maker where users can exchange cryptocurrency through smart contracts and prices are set by algorithms. Therefore, there is no centralized authority managing trades. Instead, there are liquidity pools that hold tokens backed by assets. This DEX offers countless tokens that can be swapped for one another. SushiSwap connects many decentralized markets and provides much more than exchanging tokens. The platform was forked from <a href="https://uniswap.org/">UniSwap</a>, but differentiates itself by offering additional staking and farming contracts. Initially, SushiSwap provided Sushi tokens when users made deposits of UniSwap tokens into the platform. This was to incentivize individuals to switch over to SushiSwap and brought in over $800 million in crypto funds.

SushiSwap is a community-built, open-source ecosystem of DeFi tools. The SushiSwap decentralized exchange (DEX) platform enables users to swap, lend, and borrow cryptocurrency.

<h4>Where artistry meets web3 and artificial intelligence.</h4>
Art is constantly evolving. The definition of being an artist in the 21st century broadens every day due to the rapid advancement of technology, and in recent years, artificial intelligence technology has advanced exponentially. AI can now do tasks and solve problems in ways that are truly mind-blowing and Botto is a perfect example of this. Botto is an AI artist created by Mario Klingemann that can create 350 unique art pieces per week. It has the ability to analyze thousands of pieces, from Leonardo Da Vinci to modern cartoons, and then draw inspiration from the art to create its own. Botto’s only purpose is to create art for the public. At the end of each week, Botto presents the art to members of the Botto DAO who then vote on a singular piece, called a fragment. The fragment with the most votes is then auctioned as an NFT on SuperRare, and all proceeds are distributed amongst the community.

To become part of the Botto community, first stake $BOTTO on the platform. $BOTTO is the native ERC-20 governance token that allows members to partake in making proposals and to vote on their favorite art pieces. After a winning piece (fragment) is selected, Botto then learns the patterns within the pieces that the public favors the most.
